Once you are at your location, turn off all the lights that you can turn off and adjust to the darkness for a few minutes.

Hold your tube up to your eyes and count all of the stars you see through the tube, being careful not to count any star twice. Put the number in your notebook.

Repeat nine more times, moving your counting tube slightly to a new view of the sky each time. Each number in your notebook. You should have ten different counts in your notebook.

Add together the ten numbers, and then divide the sum by ten. This number will be your average number of visible stars in that area. Put this number in the data table.
