Spring 2019 Senior Design Project Proposal

Spring 2019 Senior Design Project Proposal

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is planning to remove and replace the southbound bridge of Highway 30 over the Loup River, on the southern edge of Columbus, NE. The bridge is considered an historic bridge and will be preserved by converting a portion of the structure to a pedestrian bridge at a local park. The replacement bridge may be located to the east, to the west, or remain in the same location as the original bridge. There is a box culvert viaduct that allows traffic to pass underneath the bridge that must be replaced. During construction, the Loup River crossing must remain open to traffic and the nearby memorial park must remain accessible to cars and pedestrians.
